‘Sleeper Effect’ paving slabs

Railway sleepers are an enormously popular gardening material, they are versatile, look fantastic but will over time fade and rot and can be slippery when wet.

At Stansted Paving we decided to overcome this problem by manufacturing concrete sleepers which are available in a variety of colours and can be used to create patio areas for seating and entertaining or simply a pathway.

I have detailed below a recent job we undertook where the customer wanted us to create a pathway from the front path to the front door with the least number of steps and incorporated our concrete sleepers.

I came up with the idea to create a meander up and across the front lawn allowing for the middle section to be level. This gave the clients a stepping stone appearance using the sleeper effect slabs surrounded by Cotswold chippings.

concretesleepers4The step risers were constructed using our 300mm walling bricks with the logcrete slab on top creating a step around 5-6inches (which is standard for a set of stairs). To be able to take into account the slope on the garden I did use new railway sleepers to retain where needed. They compliment the logcrete and the Cotswold chipping and became a great structural feature of the path. With the height difference of around 2m between the house and the front pathway, this step/stepping stone path became a great solution to the clients existing steep drive/path. As you can see, the end result looked amazing!

Our Logcrete paving comes in other colours and can be used to create a patio area for seating and entertaining. If you need a quote, any advice or design ideas then please give us a call on 01279 874 912 or fill out the contact form on our website.
